Asia’s Largest KGC 2010 – Games Are Alive!

We are right now in the middle of the Korea Game Conference 2010 (“KGC 2010”). We were there today (September 13) as the press team, and we could definitely feel the heat in there! Today we attended the press conference from Epic Games Korea regarding the Unreal Engine 3, a Keynote speech on the future of social games from Kristian Segerstrale, the co-founder of Playfish, and a lecture on the successful localization of games. We will share the details on Korea Game Watch soon, and those we will not be able to attend, we will keep you notified as soon as the press reports are released.  Here is our official “preview” of the KGC 2010 to give you a little bit of a taste on what the heat there is all about.

KGC 2010 is being held from September 13 to 15 at COEX Grand Ball Room, Seoul. Sponsored by Korea Game Developer Association, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Korea Creative Content Agency and many other associations in the game industry, KGC 2010 is the largest game conference in Asia. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, KGC 2010 will consist of voluminous lectures and over 120 special sessions under the slogan “Games Are Alive.” In addition, online game pioneers from Korea, USA, Japan, China and other parts of the globe will gather up to explain the trends in the game industry, including the recent boom in social games and functional games.

Internationally acclaimed experts from various game sectors and companies will participate in KGC 2010 to deliver speeches on high-class game information. First and Foremost, developers of domestic games (Mabinogi, Kingdom Under Fire, Atlantica, Band Master and others) and overseas (Demon’s Soul, Tekken 6, Super Street Fighter 4, Battle Field, Company of Heroes, GTA 4 and others) will be ready to provide development know-hows. Additionally, up-to-date prospects and cases of iPhone, SNS and functional games will occupy the essential parts of the conference. Keynote speeches will be Playfish’s Kristian Segerstrale on the future values of social games (September 12), Trinigy’s Dag Frommhold on the symbiosis between developers and engineers via middleware (September 13) and THQ’s Tim Holman on the future of video games and Autodesk’s Warren Currell on middleware industry (September 14)

Each day, participants will meet highlighted sessions of different topics. On September 13, SONY Product Development Department Japan Studio’s Takeshi Kajii and Hidetaka Miyazaki will speak on the design methods used in Demon’s Soul. Later, Popcap’s James Gwertzman will share hit strategies based on his experiences in Plants vs Zombie. On September 14, EPIC’s Jack Porter will talk about new unreal engines. Soon after, Yohionori Ono, chief manager of Super Street Fighter 4, will give a talk on the customer maintenance schemes for classic games. Nvidia’s executives are also ready to share their APEX/PhysX and tessellation techniques. On September 15, Bioware’s Casey Hudson speaks on Mass Impact’s trance media and storytelling.

Along with exhibition booths (from Trinigy, AutoDesk, EPIC, Nvidia, ETRI, Net Tension, Samsung Electronics, Seoul Business Agency, Global Hub Center, Academy of Art University and other game institutions), the second round of KGC Awards will be presented. Here, prominent games including Mabinogi, Tekken 6, Super Street Fighter 4 and God of War 3 will enter the competition to win the award.
